Gävle Town Hall has a history that started almost five hundred years ago, a long history surrounded by fire.
Gävle’s first City Hall was built in 1628 but was lost in a city fire in 1776. A new Town Hall were built between the years 1784-1790. And again a frantic fire raged in town, the Hall didn´t burn down this time but got badly injured and a renovation process started. Even today, the building still stands and reminiscent of times gone by.
As late as 1972 the historical building was supplemented with a carillon. If you ever come to the city of Gävle in Sweden, you may hear the sound of the bells. Ding dong.
